The Agriculture and Food Authority has rolled out the Crops (Bixa) Regulations 2025. Speaking during the official launch held in Mombasa County, AFA Director General, Dr. Bruno Linyiru, OGW. said the regulations will support the Subsector players in formalizing and streamlining the development of the bixa crop in Kenya, that lacks standardized production and processing practices.
“The regulations will aid in increased investment in Bixa farming and processing, development of enterprises and job creation especially for the youth and Women” the Director General said adding that this will bring order, fairness, and sustainability within the subsector.

The DG reiterated that the Regulations provides a structured framework that safeguards farmers, promotes transparency, and ensures every player across the value chain operates within clearly defined standards.
He added that, AFA in collaboration with County Governments, will map all Bixa production areas, conduct training programs for growers, agents and processors on compliance and best practices, among other interventions.
Dr. Bruno pointed out that the regulations will equip every stakeholder with the right information, promote a well-coordinated, regulated and farmer-centered value chain that delivers value, protects livelihoods, and enhances market confidence.
Present during the roll out were Bixa farmers representatives who welcomed the regulations, expressing optimism about the subsector’s future. They added that bixa farming has in the recent past become a reliable source of income for many families mostly in Kilifi and Kwale counties.
The rollout of the Crops (Bixa) Regulations, 2025 is part of AFA’s broader mandate to promote effective regulation and development of scheduled crops, ensuring agricultural value chains remain competitive and sustainable.
