Our Background

The Miraa Pyrethrum Fibre and Other Industrial Crops Directorate is one of the directorates under the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), established pursuant to Section 3 of the Agriculture and Food Authority Act, 2014, following the operationalisation of the Crops Act, 2013. The Directorate took over the mandates and functions previously performed by the former Fibre Crops Directorate and the Miraa, Pyrethrum, and Other Industrial Crops Directorate.

The Authority, through its Directorate, plays a pivotal role in regulating, promoting, and developing the value chains of the miraa, pyrethrum, cotton, sisal, jute, bixa, cacao, and other industrial crops in Kenya, hence ensuring that these sub-sectors remain key contributors to the country’s economic growth and the country’s development.

The Directorate also has the mandate for implementing policies and strategies aimed at enhancing the production, processing, and marketing of miraa, pyrethrum, cotton, sisal, jute, bixa, cacao, and other industrial crops. It works in partnership closely with government agencies, private sector institutions, and other stakeholders to promote the efficient and sustainable operation of these industries.
