Agriculture and Food Authority- Coffee Directorate has today commenced a two-day sensitization workshop bringing together Multi-Agency Working Group in readiness for the geo-mapping and data collection rollout across all 33 coffee- growing counties in Kenya.
The two-day workshop aims to sensitize the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) Data Collection Team on the approach to training county enumerators, progress reporting, adherence to the Data Protection Act, and the roles and responsibilities of each team member.
EUDR is critical to ensuring Kenya’s coffee remains competitive globally, with the European Union currently accounting for 55 percent of the country’s coffee export impacting 800,000 households directly.
The regulation requires a due diligence statement confirming that products in the supply chain are deforestation-free since December 2020. Products must also comply with the legal requirements of their country of origin.
The government is facilitating data collection at no cost to farmers to comply with the EUDR by 31 December 2025.
The Multi-Agency Technical Working Group established to oversee EUDR implementation include Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), State Department for Agriculture (SDA), State Department for Cooperatives, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Kenya Space Agency (KSA), Directorate of Resource Surveys and Remote Sensing (DRSRS), Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).
Agriculture and Food Authority is leading the EUDR implementation project, ensuring alignment with regulations.
