The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) – Coffee Directorate, in collaboration with Kipkelion Coffee Mill, conducted a tree planting exercise in Londiani, Kericho County. During the event, a total of 4,200 assorted forest trees were planted, marking a significant contribution to Kenya’s national landscape restoration efforts.
This initiative reflects AFA’s continued commitment to restoring degraded ecosystems, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship. It also aligns with the Presidential Directive on growing 15 billion trees by 2032—a nationwide effort aimed at reversing environmental degradation and securing sustainable livelihoods.
By partnering with Kipkelion Coffee Mill, AFA demonstrates the value of public-private collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals. The tree planting not only supports environmental conservation but also enhances the long-term sustainability of coffee farming by improving soil health, protecting water sources, and preserving biodiversity.
Beyond the environmental impact, the exercise served as a platform to engage the local community, encouraging farmers, students, and institutions to take active roles in environmental protection. Through awareness and participation, the initiative aims to inspire collective responsibility for Kenya’s green future.
AFA remains dedicated to ensuring that the agricultural sector contributes meaningfully to both economic growth and ecological resilience. The Londiani tree planting initiative is one of many efforts that underline the Authority’s commitment to integrating environmental sustainability into Kenya’s coffee value chain and beyond.
